In a move sure to disappoint UCD students, shop Dublin Bus have radically altered the night-time schedule which serves the Belfield campus. The 46A and 145 services will no longer reach the UCD slip-road after 9pm each evening. The 39A service will operate as normal, however, from 11pm the service will operate from outside the main UCD gate rather than inside the campus.

Speaking to the College Tribune, a Dublin Bus spokesperson said, “due to the appalling anti-social behaviour of students from UCD, the 39a is operating from the ramp just outside the UCD gates.”

The dropping of the UCD slip-road stop from the 145 and 46A night-time route will dramatically impact the frequency of buses servicing the campus.

The company has made the move following alleged anti- social behaviour by UCD students on their night – time services.

Dublin Bus have made similar moves in the past in response to alleged anti-social behaviour by students. A Dublin Bus spokesperson said the company is liasing with An Garda Siochana to resolve the issue.

“We are unable to confirm the restrictions to the Dublin Bus service at this time,” a UCD spokesperson told the College Tribune.

Students have expressed outrage at the move. Third year student, Emma Lane believes Dublin Bus are unfairly targeting UCD students, “anti-social behaviour surely can’t be just UCD, there’s issues with loads of town buses at that time of night with drunk people. If they’re going to tackle the problem they should do it city wide, not just one of many troublesome routes and stops.”

However, other students and staff agree with the move, Jessica Reynolds, a third year Arts student, said she finds the measures “completely understandable” having witnessed the anti-social behaviour first hand.
