University College Dublin (UCD) hosted Wexford Youths on Friday for their SSE Airtricity League of Ireland first division clash. The students came out with a point to prove and dominated their visitors, scoring a league-record eight unanswered goals in the 90 minutes.

UCD made their intensions clear from the opening whistle, with Yoyo Mahdy finding the back of the net in the first minute of the game. He followed up with his second of the evening 25 minutes later, with no sign of the Students slowing down.

The home side continued to play good football throughout the fist half. Liam Kerrigan added his name to the scoresheet just eight minutes before halftime. There was no respite for Wexford, however, as Colm Whelan scored his first goal of the game on the stroke of halftime, giving the hosts a 4-0 lead heading into the break.

The Students could be forgiven for taking their foot off the throttle in the second half, however they seemed to only play harder. Mahdy completed his hattrick in much the same manner as he started it, scoring in the first minute of the half.

Whelan added his second score of the game ten minutes later, and the hosts were confident in their commanding lead. Whelan completed his hattrick in the 72nd minute, writing off any chance of Wexford making a miraculous comeback.

The final goal of the game went to Isaac Akinsete in the 82nd minute and took the hosts to a league-record of 8-0 against Wexford.

They now are just 2 points behind the league leaders and are currently sitting at fourth on the log. UCD will host Galway United on Monday, before travelling to Cork to take on Cobh Ramblers on Saturday.
