As the year ends, we are still seeing unique and interesting movies released, but it is almost hard to keep up with them all. The College Tribune breaks down 8 films that were released in November that you should watch.

The Wonder

Release Date: 4th November

Originally a novel by Irish author, Emma Donoghue, it follows the story of nurse, Lib Wright, in 1862 who travels to a village in Ireland to study a young girl who has been starving herself for months. It has a packed cast of Florence Pugh as Lib, Tom Burke as Willian Byrne who acts as an advisor to Lib and breakout star, Kila Lord Cassie, as the young Anna O’Donnell at the center of this drama. It is directed by Sebastián Lelio who has also made Gloria Bell, a movie about accepting yourself in later life and Disobedience, a drama following a woman trying to break up a marriage to rekindle an old flame.

This film is now available to stream on Netflix.

My Policeman 

Release Date: 4th November

My Policeman is another movie based on a bestselling novel and stars Harry Styles, Emma Corrin and David Dawson. This follows the story of Tom Burgess, a police officer who is gay and marries Marion Taylor, a school teacher, to cover up his sexuality. During his marriage he has an affair with Patrick Hazlewood, a museum curator. This is directed by Michael Grandage, originally the Donmar theater director in London, who set up his own production company in 2016. Their only other film to date is Genius based on another novel and true story. Set in 1950’s Brighton, it is an emotional and poignant film that maintains relevance today.

This film is now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Release Date: 11th November

After the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman, the original titular Black Panther and ruler of Wakanda, the film returns for its long awaited sequel. This sequel follows the aftermath of King T’Challa’s death in Wakanda and the threat of the Talocan ruled by Namor (Tenoch Huerta). Talocan is an underwater nation who are invading Wakanda after King T’Challa reveals their secret society to the wider world.

Directed by Ryan Coogler who was the force behind the first Black Panther movie creates an honourable sequel and brings Letitia Wright’s character, Suri, to the forefront of the story. The film features the familiar faces of Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira and Martin Freeman, as well as introduces new characters played by Dominique Thorne and Tenoch Huerta.

The Menu

Wide Release Date: 18th November

This new dark comedy follows the story of couple Margot (Anya Taylor Joy) and Tyler (Nicholas Holt) as they travel to a remote island to eat at the exclusive restaurant Hawthorne. Its famous chef Julian (Ralph Fiennes) uses molecular gastronomy to create his unique menu and atmosphere at Hawthorne. This was initially released on the 10th of September at the Toronto Film Festival yet will be  released to wider audiences on the 18th of November 2022. 

She Said 

Release Date: 18th November

This biographical drama tells the story of the New York Times journalists that broke the story of Harvey Weinstein’s sexual assault. This movie is also based on a book of the same title She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harrassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement by Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey. It stars Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan as the two journalists, and authors of the book, and tells the story of the trials and tribulations they faced reporting and breaking the sexual harassment story on such a grand scale. It is directed by Maria Schrader who was also the power behind Netflix miniseries Unorthodox.  

Disenchanted 

Release Date: 18th November

You might remember at the end of the final lockdown in 2021, a town called Enniskerry was transformed into a fantasy and fairytale-like town for filming of this movie. Filming began in May 2021 when familiar faces like Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsy, James Marsden and Indina Menzel returned to recreate their famous characters after nearly 15 years since the first movie Enchanted was released. This time we explore how Gisele and Robert move out of New York City and into the suburbs and how they adapt and cope to their new life.

The film is now available to stream on Disney+.

Bones and All

Wide Release Date: 18th November

This is a coming of age romance story with a very big twist… both the male and female leads are cannibals. This film follows Maren (Taylor Russell) and Lee (Timothee Chalamet) as they embark on a road trip across America, illustrating how they survive as cannibals and how their love for each other grows further. This movie based on the novel written by Camille DeAngelis published in 2015. It first premiered in the 79th Venice Film Festival and during its showing there, director Luca Guadagnino won a silver lion for Best Director.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Story

Release Date: 23rd November

Director Rian Johnson is back with a second installment to his very successful Knives Out, originally released in 2019. This film is a classic murder mystery like previous installments such as Murder on the Orient Express and and Death on the Nile. This movie offers a brand new ensemble cast starring Kate Hudson, Katheryn Hahn, Janelle Monáe and Edward Norton with the return of Daniel Craig as Detective Benoit Blanc. The movie follows a group of people who attend a murder mystery party on a private Greek island called Glass Onion. Blanc is put to the test when one of the party goers is actually murdered.

This film will be available to stream on Netflix on 23rd December 2022.
