UCD Students Union have announced changes to the UCD re-sit examination fee on Facebook this evening. The post which comes after lengthy negotiations between UCD and UCD SU have resulted in re-sit fees being reduced to €180 per exam, down from the previous €230. This change will be coming into effect for the next academic year.

This fee reduction is the first UCD has seen in 10 years and comes after a 2015 Student Union Council motion mandating the sitting SU President and Education Officer to use any and all available resources to reduce re-sit fees. It has also been a issue raised by number candidates for sabbatical positions over the years.

The reduction comes amidst heightened student concern over the rising cost of third level education, with protests having taken place in Trinity College Dublin and Dublin City University in recent weeks. The SU have said that they “will continue to advocate for further reduction in fees” and push for education to be publicly funded.
