Spotify Ireland will be increasing the price of their Premium Student membership for all students from €4.99 a month to €5.99 a month.

This will increase the price of student’s annual membership from €60 a year to €72 for the 12-month period. This increased pricing will come into effect from April 30th, this Friday. In an email to all Premium Student members, the Spotify team explained their reasoning for the price increase:

“We’re increasing the price of Premium Student so we can continue to bring you new content and features that you can enjoy.”

Students who are currently paying the €4.99 rate will continue to pay this amount for an additional month with the increased rate becoming “effective on your June billing date”.

Other Spotify prices will also be increasing on Friday with increases in the Family subscription being planned. The College Tribune has reached out to Spotify Ireland and requested comment on whether this increase is in relation to Chief Executive Officer Daniel Ek is expected to complete a multi-billion Pound Sterling bid to purchase Arsenal Football Club in the coming weeks.

Tweeting from his personal account, Ek stated that; “As a kid growing up, I’ve cheered for Arsenal as long as I can remember. If KSE would like to sell Arsenal I’d be happy to throw my hat into the ring.”
