New York fashion week may have ended, for sale but it has unleashed the coming trends of spring onto the world. These trends will no doubt dominate spring style for the coming year. And if New York fashion week is anything to go by; spring is all about the midriff.

Catwalks were awash with crop tops and high-waisted trousers and skirts. Marc Jacobs and Oscar de la Renta favoured a tailored, sildenafil structured and chic look, where as Christian Siriano and Tibi Spring favoured flowing, ruffled skirts and loose sleeves.

Structured blazers and tailored trousers flooded the catwalks of Alexander Wang and Oscar de la Renta. A pastel and neutral colour pallet was popular among many designers.

Many designers show cased the clichéd leafy greens and floral patterns for spring. This brings to mind Meryl Streep’s portrayal of Miranda Priestley in “The Devil Wears Prada”; “Florals for spring? Groundbreaking.” Though no one could fault the floral extravaganza showcased by Michael Kors.

Oscar de la Renta and J. Crew showed heavy retro influence. Some styles included colourful gingham print blouses and retro patterns with a bold colour palette. Designers opted to keep the outfits simple, patterned blouses were juxtaposed against plain or sheer trousers and skirts as statement pieces.

Though New York Fashion Week may be over for this season, all eyes are on London now!
