If you’re like me then January and February were rough – pathetic fallacy is real and dangerous, folks. Even the double reading week is a bit of a curse when you have nothing to do for the whole fortnight except think of the essays you have to write and the fact there’s only five weeks of college left. Never fear, I am here to present my top 5 songs that will violently throw you into spring – trust me you need it.
- ‘Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen)’ – Baz Luhrmann
This was an essay written by Mary Schmich and adapted into a spoken word song by film-maker Baz Luhrmann. It imparts various wisdom and advice about our everyday frustrations, and whether you take it seriously or just laugh at it, you’ll still feel better after listening. - Unwritten’ – Natasha Bedingfield
This one’s for inspiration. Feel it, live it, belt it out at the top of your lungs, Emma Stone style. - ‘Wannabe’ – The Spice Girls
Now we’re just over charging your energy, whipping you into a frenzy machine that’s ready for the next five weeks. - ‘American Boy’ – Estelle ft Kanye West
This is an absolutely immortal classic that should frankly be included on every list ever made. How can you not feel good singing this song? - ‘Lemon’ – N.E.R.D
A contemporary tune to pull you back into this decade with a similar energy that will adequately recharge you for springtime. Rihanna’s rapping lets off a mood that will carry you all the way through to next September. Also, this song is a launch pad for anyone looking to explore N.E.R.D’s music before Electric Picnic.
