Accessory trends at the recent London and New York Fashion weeks have given us more than enough inspiration for staying stylish throughout the winter months. Here are some of my favourite trends:
First off is the poncho / cape trend made famous by Cara, see Rosie and Olivia. This is a godsend for students. Versatile, stylish and incredibly comfortable, this winter wardrobe staple will keep you warm and snuggly when the chill sets in (or for those hungover days when you wish you were still in bed.) A cape is the perfect way to set off any layered look and is a less heavy and bulky alternative to your winter coat.

Comfort continues to win through, as the trainer trend remains strong in fashion circles. Seen on the runways of Burberry and Chanel, trainers are a simple and easy way to be stylish yet comfortable. So let go of the summer pumps and invest in something like these Nike running shoes and pair with skinny jeans or leggings for a simple, casual look that will work all year round. Available from Office and Schuh where students get 10% student discount.

No longer just for school kids, backpacks have undoubtedly made the transformation from geek to sleek. And while those seen on the catwalks in London and New York may set you back more than the price of a few month’s rent, there are some alternatives which are worth considering. Longchamp’s Le Pliage tote has long been a favourite for UCD’ers so why not try out their backpack version?
