Lord Mayor Hazel Chu will speak at the 6th Arthur Cox UCD Women in Leadership Conference to be hosted in University College Dublin (UCD) on the 24th and 25th of February.
The two-day event consists of a series of talks and seminars from female UCD alumni now working in various professional fields, with the intention of inspiring and supporting students in achieving their career goals.
Confirmed speakers include industry leaders in business, journalism, mental health and third-level education service provision as well as corporate and renewable energy management specialists.
Among the event’s prospective speakers is Lord Mayor Hazel Chu, a BA History and Politics graduate who also holds an Msc in Marketing Practice from Smurfit business school.
Since leaving UCD, Lord Mayor Chu has led an accomplished career in both business and politics and has also undertaken voluntary teaching and organisational roles both at home and abroad during this time. She is also a trained barrister and has been chairperson of the Green Party since March 2017.
The current Dean of Graduate Studies and Deputy Registrar at UCD, Professor Barbara Dooley, will be addressing the conference. Alongside Dooley will be author, journalist and CEO of Scale Ireland, Martina Fitzgerald, former Auditor of UCD’s Politics Society and UCD alumni from the history and politics department.
The Arthur CoxUCD event organizers intend to arrange networking opportunities and information sessions in order to enable students to reap the benefits of the event long after its conclusion.
Speaking to The College Tribune last year, Lord Mayor Chu previously commented on the difficulty facing female graduates. Referencing the gender pay gap, which appears within two years of graduation, Chu has said that larger industries must be made “play ball”. Change, she has said, “starts with the bigger companies”, who are “willing to make sure there is no discrimination going forward no-matter-what.”
