ampoule serif;”>Maintaining healthy eating habits in university can sometimes seem like a real challenge. Students often find themselves pressed for time and will chose the quickest, treatment often less healthy, option. However, maintaining a healthy diet along with regular exercise will help you to keep a clear mind and remain focused. Even changing just a few eating and exercise habits will improve your health and concentration.
Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. Skipping breakfast leads to a decrease in blood sugar levels which results in poor concentration. Breakfast gives your body the kick-start it needs to function for the rest of the day.
It’s important to get up and get active. UCD sports centre run programmes such as Get in Gear and Bootcamp which are aimed at students of all fitness levels. Students can also take part in fitness classes such as aerobics on a pay-as-you-go basis between January and April with most classes costing only €2.
The old adage “fail to prepare, prepare to fail” is not only true of the academic world, but also when taking steps to improve your diet. If you plan and budget your diet for the week you are more likely to stick to it and eat well. Fresh fruit and vegetables are less expensive than processed foods and takeaways so you’ll be doing your wallet a favour as well as your waistline.
