Applications to be a part of The College Tribune’s team producing its 35th volume are now open!

The College Tribune is UCD’s independent student newspaper and Ireland’s largest independent student newspaper. Be a part of UCD’s student journalism scene by working with us and contribute to the paper archiving student life and The Big Return to Campus.

Descriptions of the roles available to apply for are available below. Applications should be 500 words maximum in length and should describe the reason you are applying for the specific role, your qualifications and your plans for the role.

Descriptions:


Design Team:

We’re looking for a team of two to three people who are experienced in graphic design and software such as Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. This role is excellent for those who enjoy graphic design and will consist of creating advertisements, graphics and aiding with the visual aesthetics of the paper.

Finance Team:

We’re looking for a team of two to three people to work with us to secure finance for the paper by reaching out to potential advertisers, drafting invoices and keeping accounts. This is a role that requires a good level of numerical skill but also good written communication.

Features Section Editors (Business Editor and Science Editor):

The Features section is looking for a Business Editor and a Science Editor. In this role, you will be managing the section’s contributors and writers while editing the articles they write. You will be reporting to the Features Editor and will be expected to come up with creative ideas for articles in the section which will be included in every issue.

Entertainment & Lifestyle Section Editors (Arts&Lifestyle Editor and Film&TV editor):

The Entertainment and Lifestyle section is looking for an Arts&Lifestyle Editor and a Film&TV Editor. In this role, you will be managing the section’s contributors and writers while editing the articles they write. You will be reporting to the Entertainment & Lifestyle Editor and will be expected to come up with creative ideas for articles in the section which will be included in every issue.

Turbine Editor:

This role consists of organising writers and editing articles for The College Tribune’s entire satire section. You will be required to come up with creative, satirical and humorous articles ideas to be included in every issue of the Tribune.

Investigative Reporters:

If you are interested in investigative journalism and uncovering the various different stories taking place in UCD, then this role is for you. You will be working in the investigative wing of the Paper which is called Fócus and within a team of investigative student journalists working on at least one story per issue.

Contributors:

The Tribune is always delighted to take on new reporters and contributors for different sections of the paper. For this role, you can simply email the Co-Editors, Manny and Conor, with your name, what year you are in, what you are studying and for what section you would like to write. There’s no need to write the 500-word application! You will be assigned an article by the section editor but you will also have the liberty to pitch an article idea you would like to write about.
