This year’s University College Dublin (UCD) Students’ Union elections has seen students voting to Reopen Nominations for 4 out of 6 Sabbatical Executive Officer positions. The results were announced to a crowd of approximately 25 participants, live via Zoom at 6:15 pm on Friday, the 1st of April.
The only position filled was the contested Education Officer race won by Martha Ní Riada. There was no candidate running for the Graduate Officer position.
Students’ Union Sabbatical Executive Officers:
The Students’ Union’s Sabbatical Executive Officers are elected full-time officers. There are 6 elected officers, Campaigns and Engagement, Education, Entertainment, Welfare, Graduate and the President.
Uncontested President candidate, Molly Greenough, received 824 votes out of a total valid poll of 1711. The Reopening of Nominations option received 887 votes.
Uncontested Campaigns and Engagement officer candidate Robyn O’Keeffe received 815 votes out of a total valid poll of 1685. The Reopening of Nominations option received 870 votes.
Uncontested Welfare Officer candidate Míde Nic Fhionnlaoich received 826 votes out of a total valid poll of 1688. The Reopening of Nominations option received 862 votes.
Contested Education officer candidate Martha Ní Riada has been elected to the position with a total of 749 votes on the second count. The Reopening of Nominations option received 642 votes out of a total valid poll of 1744. On the first count, opposing candidate Daragh Kane-O’Toole received 424 votes out of a total valid poll of 1744, Ní Riada received 690 and the Reopening of Nominations received 630. Kane-O’Toole was eliminated after the first count.
Uncontested Entertainment officer candidate Ciara Moroney received 840 votes out of a total valid poll of 1686. The Reopening of Nominations option received 846 votes.
There was no Graduate Officer candidate in this year’s election.
Summary of Sabbatical Position Results:
Students have elected to reopen nominations for 4 out of 5 of the races run this year for the Union’s Sabbatical team. Martha Ní Riada was elected to the Education officer position on the second count.
Students’ Union College Officers:
College Officers are part-time volunteer officers; their role is designed to act as the primary means of communication between students and the SU Executive. The only races ran this year were for the College of Science and the College of Law.
In an uncontested race for Science College Officer, Ryan Corley was elected with a total number of 207 votes out of a total valid poll of 407. 200 students voted to Reopen Nominations.
In a contested race for Law College Officer between Aisling Maloney and Robin Jowett, Jowett was elected on count 1 with 98 votes out of a total valid poll of 194. Maloney received 62 votes and the Reopening of Nominations option received 34 votes.

Business Officer – No candidates ran for this position.
It is yet to be announced when the By-Elections will be held. Candidates wanting to run for any of the Sabbatical positions or College Officer positions will need to go through the process of collecting 150 signatures from students to be nominated to run for the positions.
