Shaping the cow of the future - Maria McKinney(1)Culture Night kicks off tonight in Dublin, with free entrance to over 1,000 free events across the city. Tonight is all about exploring the artistic, musical talent, food and alcohol of this great city we have chosen to study in. All for free.

So what should be your first stop? UCD Parity studios artist Maria McKinley has constructed a wearable sculpture for bulls made out of semen straws. These straws are used to inseminate cows, so please resist the burning desire to touch them. Students are encourage to come down today to the physics department and ask the artists any question they want.

Next you should really head into town, for a tour of Teeling Whiskey Distillery or the great Guinness Storehouse, This is a real opportunity to see over 200 years of whiskey distilling in action, from 6pm till 11pm, and sample some whiskey. Remember booking is essential for these two, as they are sure to be sold out fast.

Full of whiskey or Guinness, depending on your tipple, you are sure to need lining for your stomach. Why not take the Free Dublin Bus, provided for Culture Night, to Christ Church Cathedral for some gourmet food stalls? Sounds too fancy? Head over to The Mendicity Institution and taste the very food once served to Dublin’s poor.

Ever wanted to know how to walk properly in heels? Do some sexy artistic moves for your girlfriend, boyfriend or cat? Then Lisa Darling’s 6.30pm show at the Irish Burlesque School might be the answers to your prayers. Come put your twerking days behind you with some classy erotic dancing.

Nest move on to one of the various great gigs going on around the city. Le Galaxie encourages you ‘to get weird’ with them at Thomas Street from 7pm. Also the recording studio that made U2 a household name, Whitemill Lane, will be providing intimate performances from 7pm with an opportunity to tour the studio as well.

For n excellent finisher to the best Friday night of the year head to a rave in Smithfield. Generator Dublin will play the best tunes from 11pm till 2.30am. If you are still looking to party after this, you can always try coppers to practice your erotic dancing.
