The Food Society won the top prize, Society of the Year at the Society of the Year Awards last Thursday. The winners of the awards were chosen by the UCD Societies Council, and the event is an annual fixture in the University’s society calendar.
FoodSoc, who also won “Best Social Media Presence”, ran events like a Dominos-themed formal, and facilitated other gastro-related activities on campus.
The “Small Society of the Year” award was presented to the Draw Society. Drawsoc’s workshops and collaborations with other societies have had a dedicated following throughout the year.
Poster of the Year went to Dramsoc for their design for Hamlet. Dramsoc last won the award in 2017, also, for their poster for their production of Hamlet.
The Internet Society took home the Event of the Year Award for SISTEM. SISTEM is a conference for Irish STEM students held at UCD by Internet Soc on an annual basis. The conference, now in its third year, hosted over 200 students, and was the largest of its kind in Ireland this year.
The Literary Society’s Caveat Lector VIII was named Publication of the Year. The publication was launched with a night of author readings at the Museum of Literature in Ireland, UCD’s historic home on St. Stephen’s Green.
The awards were released online, as the usual accompanying ceremony could not be held under the current coronavirus restrictions.
