UCD GAA advance past Ulster University
In spite of an early dismissal of captain Kieran Kennedy within the first half, UCD got the best of their Ulster counterparts as they ran out 1-13 to 0-08 winners. Last season’s league top-scorer David Garland and Roscommon’s Daire Cregg both managed four points each as the Belfield men march onto the Sigerson Cup quarter-finals.
Sarah McCauley does the Collidge proud at the Hockey Olympic qualifiers
Ireland’s search to secure another appearance at the Olympic Games has come to an end as Ireland lost out to Britain. UCD’s Sarah McCauley played her part in a largely positive qualifying campaign, but the challenge of beating Spain followed by their neighbouring rivals proved too much for the girls in green.
UCD-nucleus of Celtic Challenge squads
Current UCD Women’s Rugby players, Éadaoin Murtagh and Hannah Wilson both featured for the Wolfhounds over the Christmas break in both the opening match of the Celtic Challenge series vs the Irish Clovers and the second round vs Edinburgh. Former players Niamh O’Dowd and Clare Gorman also made appearances for the Clovers.
New Mouthguard Technology to be trialled in 6 Nations
World Rugby recently announced its intention to introduce new mouthguard technology in the professional game, to assist with HIAs (Head Injury Assessments). Players in this year’s Six Nations will wear the gumshield that communicates with their team’s medical staff, sending ‘impact alerts’ to assist in judging whether the player requires further assessment.
