The black tie event has adopted a Harry Potter theme for the fun filled night. Genevieve Nelly O’Mahony, an active member in UCD Res Life, informed the College Tribune that “[it] will be the best but cheapest ball all year” with tickets costing €50.
Upon arrival, guests will be greeted by Rubeus Hagrid, the half giant Gamekeeper and Keeper of Keys at Hogwarts, to the venue. The castle will be transformed for the night into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The ball will comprise of a goblet champagne reception followed by a four course feast. Transportation costs are also included in the ticket price, to and from the venue. Buses will leave the Glenomena Xpresso bus stop at 7pm and will return to residences at the end of the night. Special reduced accommodation rates are also available in the hotel for those attending the event.
The night has very high expectations and the organizers guarantee that it will be “great craic” with a late night DJ, Sorting Hat drinking games, themed cocktails and themed sweets have also been organised for the magical night out. Attendees will have an opportunity to win a “magical weekend” away.
In an e-mail sent on the 16th of January by the UCDSU, it is stated that the night will be filled with many “unexpected surprises” where the residences will “take on roles of Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw”.
The event will be open to all 2,500 residents, as well as those who live off campus. With only a limited number of tickets available, the organizers advise that it would be wise to get tickets early to avoid disappointment to what is intended to be the year‘s largest res party. Tickets are on sale now and can be bought by emailing resball@ucdsu.ie.
With high hopes and momentum building up amongst residents in UCD the organizers hope that it will be an unforgettable night.
