Like their Mancunian counterparts, LVG’s men knew that nothing other than a win would be enough. Meanwhile, Wolfsburg were looking to erase the demons from a certain Polish striker. It was the latter who took the lead after the 4th minute when former Arsenal target Julian Draxler exposed out-of-position Antonio Valencia to play in Daniel Calgiuri. The Italian was then perhaps unfortunate to give away a penalty when Juan Mata struck the ball at his arm. The Spaniard nevertheless spearheaded a well-fought United comeback turning in a scintillating performance which included a composed finish from 12 yards and a sublime flick for Chris Smalling after the interval to secure an invaluable 3 points. They now look forward to back-to-back games against CSKA Moscow.
