The nominations for the 2018/19 UCDSU Executive Elections are now open and will close at 5pm on Monday 26th February 2018.
There are 13 positions available with 5 full time positions and 8 part time positions open for election. The 5 full time positions are President, Welfare & Equality, Graduate, Education and Campaigns and Communications Officer. Currently there is no Campaigns and Communications Officer since Barry Murphy resigned the role to run for President following the impeachment of former UCDSU President Katie Ascough.
The part time positions College Convenor include 2 convenors of the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences and convenor each for the College of Science; College of Engineering and Architecture; College of Health Sciences; College of Business; College of Law; College of Agriculture, Food Science and Vet Medicine.
The elections are set to take place on the 28th and 29th of March. Anyone interested in running will need to pick up an executive election nomination form from the SU reception or alternatively download the form from UCDSU’s website. Nominees will then have to submit a completed nomination form signed by at least 150 union members along with a deposit of €100 to the Union’s Returning Officer.
Speaking about the elections Barry Murphy, UCDSU President said “Running for an SU sabbatical or college officer position is one of the most enjoyable thing’s you’ll ever do. I encourage anyone with an interest in student politics, in making a difference and improving student life here in UCD to strongly consider running for election. You don’t have to have already been involved, you don’t need a previous “backing” or be popular. You do need good ideas and to be well able to sell them and yourself as a possible representative”. If elected you will join the largest SU in the country and will have the opportunity to achieve so much. I wish every candidate the very best of luck.”
