S Club Party will headline UCDSU’s ‘Raising and Giving’ (RAG) week next week. The event which is returning to UCD following an absence over the last number of years. In previous years separate events were held off campus in a bid to raise money for various charities.
The announcement was made on the UCDSU Facebook page with a video of UCDSU Barry Murphy rapping appearing on Thursday afternoon.
Raise and Give (RAG) Week is an annual flagship event held by various Universities and Colleges throughout Ireland. Centered around a chosen charity/charities, RAG weeks aim is to raise funds for a designated charity/charities through a number of events and gigs.
S Club Party will play Astra Hall on Wednesday Feb 14th. Other acts such as Bluemoose, Hardy Bucks and Mickey Joe Harte will also play sets throughout the festival which is running for the entirety of next week. A full line up can be found here.
Speaking about the event UCDSU President Barry Murphy said ‘Over the last number of years UCD’s RAG week has died a little. Historically RAG Week has tended to be held off campus with various events happening in town. However this year we have chosen to host the majority of our events on campus to bring back the sense of community. We’re fundraising for two really worthy charities that can give something back to UCD students, Pieta House and the DRCC. Hopefully, from this, UCD RAG Week will continue to grow and become as big and raise as much as our friends in Galway, Cork, and Limerick!”
This year’s chosen charities are Pieta House and The Dublin Rape Crisis Center. Wristbands go on sale Thursday 8th of February and can be purchased from all three SU shops on the Belfield campus.
