Up to seventy students are taking part in a sleep out at the Department of Education on Marlborough Street in Dublin’s north inner city tonight.

The turn out is less than expected as it is believed weather conditions deterred many students from taking part.

The students will remain on Marlborough Street until the morning and there is a Gardaí presence to ensure the demonstration remains peaceful.

Speaking to the College Tribune at the sleep out, here Brendan Lacey, hospital UCD Students’ Union Campaigns and Communications Officer said, treat “It feels wet but it feels great. I think today was a great day for students and if you were watching the Six One News had a great resonation with Deputy [Ruairi] Quinn himself. You can see that he is a bit shook. I think a lot of Labour has been shaken by the campaign.”

He added, “The campaign is working, they are feeling the pressure.”
