The College Tribune caught up with the newly elected sabbatical team over the weekend – here’s what they had to say:

Feargal Hynes, sales President: “I am absolutely delighted and honoured to be elected as the next President of UCD Students’ Union. I want to thank everyone who supported me in any way and I look forward to what will be both a very challenging and exciting year for our Union.”

Maeve DeSay, recipe Welfare and Equality Officer: “I am delighted and honoured that the students of UCD have decided to elect me as their Welfare & Equality Officer. As stressful as an election may be, rx it is nothing compared to what some students are going through and I will work tirelessly everyday to ensure that the students of UCD get the support that they need and deserve during my time as Welfare & Equality Officer”

Amy Fox, Education Officer: “I am delighted to have been elected as undergraduate education officer and I am really looking forward to working with Feargal, Maeve and Anabel over the next year. Meeting students over the last few weeks was a pleasure. I am looking forward to not only working to resolve any educational issues students may have next year but to also introducing services which can meet the day to day educational needs of UCD students.”

Anabel Castañeda, Graduate Education Officer: “Thank you. It is an honour to become the Graduate Education Officer elect. It has been such a wonderful experience and yes, the campaigning was tiring, but it was worth it. I cannot wait to work with Feargal, Maeve, and Amy next year to be the best SU ever.

Éanna Ó Braonáin, Irish Officer: “It is a huge honour to be elected as Oifigeach na Gaeilge. I am very thankful to all those that voted for me. I cannot thank everyone that helped me along the way enough. I look forward to a successful year next year.”

Laura Brohan, Business and Law Convener: “I’d like to thank everyone who encouraged me to run and gave me help and support over the last couple of weeks. In particular, I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me. Thanks to Nana for a great contest, she was an excellent candidate. Congratulations to everyone who got elected, I’m really looking forward to working with the rest of the executive next year.”

Mollie Bruton, Health Sciences Convener: “All I can say is that the positive support from students & staff throughout UCD has been absolutely overwhelming, and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to represent the Health Science community next year.”

Cian Byrne, Engineering and Architecture Convener: “I’m absolute thrilled to be elected! The support everyone showed was incredible. I’d like to give big thanks to everyone for voting. I’m really looking forward to being involved and working with everyone next year.

Melanie O’ Donovan, Human Sciences Convener: “I’m absolutely delighted about the win and as challenging as it was I’ve loved the whole campaign experience. I’m really grateful for the position and I can’t wait to start prepping for next year”

Conor Rock, Arts Convener: “I would like to thank everyone who voted and supported me over the past few weeks, especially to my campaign team and Manager Fionnán. Also to my close friends Leigh and Rebecca who, through hard work and determination, made this a very tough campaign. I hope to discuss many of their ideas with them for the future. I look forward to representing and implementing positive changes for the Arts students, and hope that if anyone has any problems during the coming year they won’t hesitate to come talk with me.”
