Making headlines has become the norm for Donegal native Mark English, healing and he did just that after helping his Irish team mates to a world record breaking time in the distance medley relay in New York’s Armory Invitational. The Irish contingent finished second with a time of 9:25.37, beating the previous record of 9:25.97 set in 2008. A time which may have secured the top spot if not for the stiff competition of the American team. English will be happy with his progress on the track ahead of the main event in Prague, however, he will continue perfecting his technique alongside the Ad Astra academy’s finest in the build up to the Championship.
UCD AC’s Ciara Everard returned to the athletics scene with a bang. Ciara has had to overcome her second cycling injury to finish top of the pack in the Senior Women’s 800m in the GloHealth National AAI Open Indoor games. The Kilkenny native recorded a time of 2.03.39 which sees her qualify for the European Indoor Championship in Prague, joining fellow UCD AC athlete English. Ciara followed up on her earlier success with a second place finish in Ghent last week.
