University College Dublin postmistress and friend, Eileen Marrinan, who has had a 31-year career with An Post, retired in May 2020. Eileen provided an excellent and successful post office service to the UCD Community here at Belfield.
Those of you who may have benefited from the wonderful post office experience here at Belfield, delivered gracefully by the wonderful Eileen over the last 31 years, will almost certainly know the pleasure it has been to meet her. You will have experienced her friendly, courteous, and professional demeanour. Eileen continued to carry out her job gracefully as the University community has grown in recent years to more than 33,000 students and 3,500 University staff. She has always ensured users of her services had an excellent experience.
Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, Eileen did not have opportunity to say goodbye to the University community and we are unable to arrange any event to wish her well due to the public health restrictions. We now take a moment to acknowledge her retirement from her service to the University Campus Community. It is hoped that we can arrange a gathering post-covid-19 restriction when it is safe to do so.
In the meantime, those of you who know Eileen and would like to wish her well may email her directly at [email protected].
Eileen has taken the time to publish the following farewell kind words to you all here:
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Eileen Marrinan and I have had the great privilege to serve as postmistress to UCD for the past thirty- one years.
I retired in May 2020 but didn’t have the opportunity to say goodbye in the manner I would have wished, due to the Covid-19 lockdown. I would like to do so now.
I wish to thank members of staff, and a special mention to David Mullins for all his support and friendship over the years. To the students who were always so friendly and upbeat, thank you for keeping me young. To all my customers, thank you for supporting the post office.
I will miss you all; and I’m leaving with many great memories of my years in UCD and the people I have met there.
Slán agus buíochas mór le mo chairde ,
The College Tribune wishes Elieen the best in her retirement.
