A woman (18) was in a critical condition and seven others were injured following a stampede outside Copper Face Jacks last night at about midnight.
A crowd of an estimated 1,500 people were queuing for the club, filling Harcourt Street. The crowd converged on the alleyway on Camden Place causing chaos.
Coppers was running an over 18’s event called Messy Mondays for the first time. The night was a big draw for students and had €3 drinks promotions. The events Facebook page advertised “Mondays Have A New Home – €3 Drink Promotions & Dublins Busiest Venue – Copper Face Jacks!”
The club was forced to open their doors to relieve the overcrowding outside.
The fire brigade,paramedics and ambulance service were at the scene.
The Irish Times reported that the club made €6.81m in pretax profits in 2012.
