The dreaded skinny jeans are back.

I’ll let you process this statement for a bit. I know it’s a scary thought… We thought we had left them well into the past. Still, if the curtailing of fashion has taught us anything, it is that past fashion will eventually become current again — if the Y2K epidemic was anything to go by.

Whether we like it or not, fashion is a part of life and is ingrained into how society perceives people. So, here is your overview of what to expect in the world of fashion for 2025.

Cloud Nine: Embracing Inflated Shapes and Bubble Hems in Fashion

Bubble hems, which have been creeping in since the end of 2024, are in full swing for 2025. Major fashion houses like LOEWE, Chloé, and Comme des Garçons are introducing bubbly hems into their stores and, for some, into their Spring 2025 ready-to-wear runway collection. The bubble hem is becoming more defined, with bubble-hemmed skirts and dresses having a dropped waist.

Bewitched and Beguiled: The Era of Dark Romance

Fashion and film have always been interlinked and have inspired each other. With the release of hit movies and TV shows like Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Wednesday, and Nosferatu, it’s no surprise that the fashion industry has moved swiftly into their dark romance era. Think gothic vampire, silks, lace, tulle and velvet. Think purposeful draping and excluding elegance with a hint of mystery.

Tulle is Everywhere. I mean Everywhere

Tulle is everywhere, from tops to dresses to skirts; it will take 2025 by storm, from Ralph Lauren to Prada. Tulle is a gorgeous sheer, net-like fabric typically made of silk, nylon, or rayon. It is draped to give this sheer gorgeousness, and it is just layered over quality undergarments in all pastel colours—shying away from the blacks and darker shades.

Pistachio, the Colour of 2025

Come Spring 2025, pistachio will be everywhere. It will be the most stunning colour to take the globe by storm, from bold pistachio dresses to pops of pistachio integrated into outfits with pistachio-coloured shoes, socks, handbags, and scarves.

90s Plaid is Back with a Bang

To those who want to reminisce, thinking of Nirvana or even the 2000s Avril Lavigne plaid era. We all remember plaid vividly – it did not serve a brief stint in the fashion world, and now it is back – but slightly different. The throwback to the 90s feels like rebellion, and punk rock has designers gleefully running towards the big and the bad feeling that plaid invokes in people – with designers like Christian Dior leading the troops into battle.

Navy is the New Black

The title is pretty self-explanatory… From Ralph Lauren’s and Marx Mara’s classical renditions of navy stripes and wide-leg trousers to Moschino’s modern renditions, it is fair to say that we will see a lot of navy in 2025.

Ladies, Get Your Pedicures Booked – Peep-Toes are Back!

Peep-toe shoes are back. It has been a long time since we have seen them grace the runway, but it is like they’ve never left. They are back and in full swing. While they are back, they are still different. The 2025 modern take on Peep-Toe shoes is sleek, structured, and overall more sculptured. So, it is no surprise that searches online for the classic Saint Laurent peep-toe pumps are up 144% this quarter.

Hello 1920s, it’s Great to See You Again!

When the Eras tour kicked off, there were tassels everywhere — I mean everywhere. As we learned earlier, fashion is often influenced by the environment around it. With the surge of tassels, designers took inspiration and decided to lean into the 1920s—with a modern twist on the Flapper Girl dresses and designs. Think Taylor Swift’s Fearless Era meets 1920s Flapper Girl

Okay, Deep Breaths, Skinny Jeans

As we conclude our fashion trends of 2025, let’s just get it over with… The one thing we thought we’d never have to endure again is back… Skinny jeans (may all our legs rest in peace). I know the war flashbacks of jumping up and down, lying on our back and the merciless tugging we all did back in the 2000s to get the God-forsaken jeans onto our legs, but I am sorry to say that they are back. Now, the way of styling them has, thankfully, changed drastically. Gone are the 2010s looks with stilettos; instead, think English countryside, horseback riding girl outfits. We’re talking boots (knee height or ankle) paired with a baggy jumper and a gilet of some kind. So, think instead of the extremely uncomfortable outfit, we’re still wearing skin-tight jeans, but everything else is light and breezy!

We all know it can be challenging to keep up with fashion trends, especially with social media personalities changing their minds every two seconds because they’ve “changed their minds on what’s fashion forward.” But you can always pick and choose what styles interest you the most and what silhouettes you want to try out. The world of fashion is your oyster, filled with endless possibilities. The most important part is having fun and figuring out the best way to express yourself.
