The Widening Participation Expo will be held on campus next Thursday, the 6th of March. The aim of the event is to raise awareness and increase engagement with access, transfer and progression of underrepresented groups and to encourage better involvement with widening participation initiatives.
The Expo will be located in the Science Hub Concourse and the George Moore Auditorium and will run from 10am until 5pm. The event will open in the Moore Auditorium with a coffee morning attended by the Registrar. There will be a series of workshops beginning at 11:30. The first of which will be a Universal Design workshop; following this will be a workshop on Assistive Technology. At 12.30 the Chair of Widening Participation Committee, Professor Brian Nolan, will launch a report on widening participation initiatives in UCD. Later in the day there will be a series of Sighted Guided workshops organised with the National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI).
Throughout the day there will be an exhibition in the Science Concourse which will feature a series of multimedia presentations including a selection of posters and short films. Also running throughout the day is UCD Shadowing Day, this is an initiative that invites 5th year pupils to experience a taste of student life in UCD through a series of fun filled activities.
The event will conclude with a Student Discussion Panel titled; “Getting in, Getting On, Getting Out.” The event will be chaired by Joe Little, a Religious and Social Affairs correspondent with RTÉ. The Panel will discuss their experiences in accessing Higher Education at UCD.
